Andrés García Benítez

1916 Holguín / 1981 Havana, Cuba.

Painter, draftsman and illustrator. He worked in journalism, specifically in the magazine Carteles, Vanidades and Diario de la Marina. He made fashion and costume designs for shows at the Tropicana Cabaret.

He received various awards, including the Juan Gualberto Gómez, in 1954. In 1966 he lived in Spain, where he carried out projects and exhibitions. Then he travels to Puerto Rico and continues his work there.

In 1980 he returned to Cuba and a year later he died in his hometown. He became one of the most important illustrators of the first half of the Cuban 20th century.
