Havana, 1959

One of the most important photographers of her generation. She graduated in 1979 from the San Alejandro Academy of Plastic Arts, Havana, Cuba; and graduated in 1984 from the Higher Institute of Art (ISA), Havana, Cuba.

Her work has marked a before and after in Cuban photography of the 80s, with an aesthetic language associated with religious praxis.

In 1997 she received the Revelation Artist award at the Arco Fair, Madrid, Spain; and a year later she received a grant from the Guggenheim Foundation, NY, USA; In the same way, from 2005 to 2011, the National Fund for Culture and the Arts of Mexico grants her scholarships that allow the artist to develop her works and present them in different countries of the world. In 2012 the Cisnero Fontanals Foundation awarded her in recognition of her career and artistic trajectory.

In 2020, the Museum of Fine Arts in Havana, Cuba, holds an anthological exhibition of her work, titled Firmness.

The artist currently resides and works in Mexico.
